PROGRAMS ADMINISTERED BY MT. CALVARY
VIC PREPARATORY ACADEMY
Mt. Calvary launched its Vocational, Industrial, and
College (VIC) Preparatory Academy in Spring 2021. The VIC Academy focuses to provide low-
income, marginalized, and minority youth with career exploration, industrial trades, and college
preparatory skills. Health sciences is embedded in the curriculum with a major focus on
diversity, equity, and inclusion for underserved, minority populations.
Additionally, VIC Academy focuses on helping youth better understand their self-worth,
interests, and abilities to aid in personal and professional development through the incorporation
of technology. Students will learn about various career opportunities and sustainable professions
within the region through mentorship opportunities since Mt. Calvary believes positive role
models can successfully help high poverty, at-risk students be successful. With that in mind, a
major emphasis will be placed on recruiting students from low-income communities. The VIC
Academy serves both middle school and high school cohorts.
MT. CALVARY DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION TASK FORCE
Southeastern North Carolina is plagued with challenges relative to race relations, socioeconomics, social injustices, and absence of fair ethnic inclusion. The Mt. Calvary Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Taskforce is designed to create a platform for a diversified panel of community leaders of various ethnicities including African American, Hispanic American, and Caucasian. The taskforce will actively engage in candid yet stimulatingly healthy dialogue centered on rooted behaviors and systematic oppression that pose both immediate and residual negative effects on minorities including ethnicity, gender, low-income, LGBTQ, and other groups. Such dialogues will derive specific outcomes to enhance cohesiveness and engagement.
The taskforce will address fairness in civic engagement, economic development, wages and rehabilitative opportunities. The inclusion of diversity will enhance the attentiveness of stockholders to improve the organizations and communities which they represent. Additionally, the diverse members will address racially charged injustices that have burst the seams of ethnic cohesiveness. The panel will consist of representatives of various communities throughout the southeastern region of North Carolina; Pender, Duplin, New Hanover, Sampson, Bladen and Columbus Counties.
The Mt. Calvary Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Taskforce will address racial tension that has heightened in recent months. The taskforce will work to develop strategies to address such immediate and ominous concerns of many communities. Developed courses of action for implementation will be shared with governing municipalities, law enforcement agencies, educational entities, business and industry, and private organizations alike to improve relations and inclusion.
The Mt. Calvary Center for Leadership Development is responding to the urgent needs of the communities by bringing diverse groups together, understanding differences, celebrating commonalities, and uniting as Americans.

NATURAL DISASTER RELIEF OUTREACH PROGRAM
Southeastern North Carolina is prone to hurricanes. In the past several years, the region has experienced several hurricanes including Hurricane Fran, Hurricane Floyd, and Hurricane Florence. Most recently, the area experienced millions in damages due to Hurricane Florence leaving many parts of the area in peril. Many residents continue to suffer the effects of the hurricane including homelessness, continued residency in damaged homes, and loss of business ventures.
Unfortunately, many of those negatively affected by Hurricane Florence lack the knowledge of the resources to rebuild their lives. The Mt. Calvary Center for Leadership Development seeks to connect people with natural disaster relief informational resources to assist people with restoration efforts. Mt. Calvary partners with several agencies in government, business, education, and other areas to serve as a hub of information for those seeking hurricane relief. Mt. Calvary provides a holistic training that takes serious people and their hurricane related problems. Mt. Calvary trains leaders to provide information about the basic human needs such as shelter, food and water, and medical services. Mt. Calvary trains students with smart preparation and direct relief response. This includes work assisting people prior to the hurricane and responses after the hurricane. The training at the Mt. Calvary Leadership Development Center will benefit the first responders and the communities they serve.
